Din over 'preventing' students
Ranchi, March 9 /--/ Jharkhand Assembly was today rocked over allegation that students were being barred from writing exams in Bengali language in this academic year even as the state government announced a probe into it.   Joining the issue after ruling JMM MLA Bidyoot Baran Mahato informed the House that in most of the schools students were barred from writing in Bengali. The opposition stood up demanding that the students be allowed to write in Bengali. When Speaker C P Singh sought to know the reasons behind the withdrawal of Bengali language, HRD minister Hemlal Murmu said it seemed the Jharkhand Academic Council had stopped it and the government would look into it within two days.   When Mr Singh further asked what would happen to the students who lost the opportunity this year, deputy chief minister Raghuvar Das said the government would definitely look into the issue within two days. "Those are Bengali populated areas, you may lose votes," former minister and Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantric) MLA Samresh Singh said in a lighter vein to the members of the ruling benches.   Jharkhand Janadhikar Manch MLA Bandhu Tirkey sought to know about the fate of tribal languages while another MLA spoke about his language. To this, Mr Murmu said six thousand students wrote in Santhal language and that the Shibu Soren government was committed to promote regional languages. (PTI)
