UP hikes salary, allowance of legislators, ministers  
          Lucknow, Feb 8 /--/ The Uttar Pradesh government today announced a raise in the salary and perks of legislators, Assembly speaker, Council chairman and ministers. "The government has decided to hike the salary and perks of members in both the Houses to Rs 50,000 per month from existing Rs 30,000," chief minister Mayawati announced in the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council today. Till now, an MLA or MLC was getting Rs 3,000 as monthly salary, Rs 15,000 constituency allowance, Rs 6,000 medical allowance and Rs 6,000 as secretary allowance.   "Now the members will get monthly salary of Rs 8,000, besides 22,000 as constituency allowance, Rs 10,000 medical allowance and Rs 10,000 secretary allowance," she said.   The salary of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Assembly and Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Council has been hiked to Rs 12,000 from existing Rs 5,000 per month. "An allowance of Rs 10,000, which they were getting for maintenance of their private house in their home district, has also been hiked to Rs 15,000," she said. The government has increased monthly salary of Cabinet ministers from Rs 5,000 to Rs 12,000. (PTI)
